A Change of Course…

January 29th, 2012 at 9:40 pm

We know that many of you have been eagerly watching for an announcement for our Spring market plans. Due to our unpredictable and damp West Coast weather, we have decided not to hold an outdoor market at the Bakerview EcoDairy at this time. We had such amazing sunshine at our Fall show and we even stayed dry at Christmas so we didn’t want to push our luck by moving forward with a Spring market under the tents. But we will be sure to broadcast the news of any future editions of Fieldstone Vintage Market here and on our Facebook page.

The Bakerview EcoDairy has many exciting plans for the Spring and for the year to come and is always a great place to bring the family year round. Stay tuned to their website for news of future events at the dairy. The Birch + Bird girls will be busy blogging about their vintage adventures while stocking their Etsy shop and you can check in with them about future handmade + vintage markets. In the meantime, be sure to check out the many other artisans, small businesses and events in your area and don’t forget to shop local!

Our Day at the Christmas Market!

December 8th, 2011 at 10:39 pm

Has it already been a week since our Christmas market? It’s hard to believe that it’s come and gone already! Thankfully, Jayme Lang wa on hand to take some gorgeous photos of Fieldstone Vintage Market for those of you who weren’t able to make it to the EcoDairy this time ’round. Although the sun decided not to shine down on us and it was just a wee bit colder than our Fall show, it was still an amazing day for vendors and customers alike! Jayme and Jessica MacDonald of Trove Vintage Rentals & Handmade Affairs set up an adorable vintage living room for their photo booth under the tents and it was filled with so many great treasures that it was tough to keep eager shoppers out! But in between portraits, Jayme was able to weave her way through the crowds and give you all a glimpse of Fieldstone….

With so many glittering baubles, handmade gifts and excited shoppers, it was impossible not to get into the Christmas spirit! The EcoDairy was once again an ideal location and added to the festive mood with  fresh cut trees, hot cider, and even the sounds of bleating goats and gobbling turkeys in the petting zoo!

Feel sad that you missed out on the fun or wish you’d purchased a few more goodies? Don’t fret…many of our vendors have online shops or sell their goods in other local stores. Be sure to visit our vendor page and take a browse through their links…you may even find a little something for your own stocking!

Despite the clouds and the cold, we had a fabulous day and are so happy that Jayme was able to capture the majority of our vendors’ lovely wares. There are a few display pics missing but the tents filled up quickly and we had many a determined shopper sneak in early to get a glimpse, making it tough to take photos. We’ll be posting more on our Facebook page as everyone downloads their cameras this weekend so be sure to check in for more!

Each edition of Fieldstone Vintage Market has been everything we’ve hoped it would be and oh-so-much more! We’ve met so many amazing people and have been endlessly inspired by our vendors and by  the sense of community that magically happens when a group of like-minded people come together in one space. Rachel and I have received a number of emails since our Fall market asking us how we’ve gone about organizing and marketing our shows and we love the fact that at least a few people have been encouraged to put together similar events after seeing our efforts. Creativity is contagious, don’t you think? The handmade and vintage movement is making a big comeback and we are thrilled to play even a tiny part in it. Anne Godefroy recently wrote a very interesting article that we read onStraight.com about the boom of local markets in the Vancouver area…you can read it here. We’re hoping to make it to the One of a Kind Show on Sunday and Got Craft? has put together a great list of other local events and upcoming shows to check out before Christmas…

Thanks again to all 28 of our beautiful vendors, to the Bakerview EcoDairy for hosting us and the hoards of visitors, to the Reach Gallery and Trout Hatchery for putting together fun activities for the kids, and to everyone else who participated and helped launch theSalvation Army‘s Coats for Kids drive…the bins were overflowing! We know many needy folks in our town will have some much needed warmth this winter thanks to all of your generosity. Stay tuned to our blogs and Facebook page for announcements of future markets and information on how to apply as a vendor. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Christmas is in the Air!

November 22nd, 2011 at 6:13 pm

With less than two weeks until Fieldstone Vintage Market, our lovely vendors are busy little elves these days! We are so excited to see all of their gorgeous displays and products that they’ve been working so hard on and are anticipating another very busy day at the market. It’s likely that our weather will not be as pristine as it was for our Fall show but we will all be keeping snug and dry under large tents in the front parking lot for our first ever European-style Christmas market. There will be live entertainment, children’s activities, hot drinks and a variety of food tastings on hand to get everybody into the Christmas spirit!

Home Life

We thought we’d put together a few tips to help make your holiday shopping experience at Fieldstone the best that it can be! Be sure to invite your family and friends and don’t forget that the Bakerview EcoDairy will be giving one children’s tour for each coat donated to The Salvation Army’s Coats for Kids drive, which will be launching at Fieldstone at 1pm….

Be sure to check out all 27 of our fabulous vendors and our site layout for the EcoDairy and start making your shopping lists in advance! Nutrifoods Market will also have cut Christmas trees on hand to really get you into the holiday spirit, as well as a variety of food tastings and samples.

See you on Saturday, December 3rd!

Let’s do lunch.

October 21st, 2011 at 9:51 pm

Well, it’s almost been a month since the Fieldstone Vintage Market and we’re still marveling at the lovely day that was had by all.  We’re doing it all over again on December 3rd, if you haven’t heard already!  In the meantime, if you haven’t stopped by the EcoDairy lately, you really should.  It such a great place to go on a sunny and even rainy afternoon, especially with the kids.  The Nutrifoods Market features a wide assortment of gourmet and organic groceries and produce including their Vitala milk, eggs and yogurt.

Another reason you might want to stop by is to enjoy the newly expanded bistro where you can enjoy their amazing sandwiches and sip a Starbuck’s Latte. They have “kid-friendly” sandwiches too!  While you’re enjoying your lunch, the kids can run around in the field with the animals behind the market or quietly keep themselves busy in the children’s corner.  It’s no-fuss dining at it’s best.  Just in case you were interested, the bistro area was Birch + Bird‘s very first design project which we’re quite thrilled about.   And if you are still dreaming of Fieldstone, you can browse through many of our treasures that are available for purchase at Nutrifoods.  They also have guided tours, a learning centre, and an animal exhibit.  It’s a great way to spend a quiet afternoon in our city in the country.

Our Day at Fieldstone!

September 29th, 2011 at 11:16 pm

Sorry for the delay in getting pictures up and running! As you can imagine, we’re still glowing from our weekend at Fieldstone Vintage Market. Many of you wished you could have been there so we asked the very talented Sharalee Prang to document our day and, boy, did she ever! Sharalee captured so many poignant moments of our vendors and customers alike, not to mention each of the incredible displays that our vendors worked so hard to put together. It was extremely difficult to choose which ones to post today so be sure to check out our Flickr account for many more stunning photos of our day in the field. Also visit Birch + Bird for another batch of Sharalee’s pictures…they’ll make you feel like you were actually with us at the EcoDairy last Saturday! In case you missed it, be sure to also her slideshow on vimeo.

Our morning started out with the field (and all of our tents!) wrapped in a heavy fog, making things just a wee bit damp. But after a beautiful sunrise, the fog lifted leaving nothing but blue skies and sunshine behind! It wasn’t long before the parking lot was full and customers were eagerly lined up for our 9am opening…

The kids all had tonnes of fun too…from pony rides, to live music, to a fantastic art station hosted by The Reach gallery, there was more than enough to keep them entertained while mom and dad shopped…and shopped!

Be sure to check out our list of all of our Fieldstone Vendors…most have links to webpages or online shops so you can continue your market shopping from home. The networking opportunities on Saturday were amazing, with customers coming from Victoria, Vancouver and beyond and we’ve been so excited to watch our vendors grow and expand their small businesses. After all, they’re the reason we chose to host a vintage and handmade market!

We had live music performances by Hanna Williamson on the violin, local band Old Mare, and singer/songwriter Anna Vandas. They’re all so talented and it was fun watching people dance while they shopped or take a break and have a picnic lunch while enjoying the music…

And here we are at the end of the day…a little wilted but still smiling! We’re Rachel Janzen+ Lily Ellis of Birch + Bird (top right) and Helinda Vanderkooi and Tanya Curtis of the Bakerview EcoDairy (bottom left) and we’d like to take a moment to say a HUGE thank you to the Bakerview EcoDairy for hosting such an amazing market and working so incredibly hard to have everything ready for our big day! More thanks to Canuck Place for manning the front gate and raising funds for the much needed children’s hospice in Abbotsford. If you forgot to give on Saturday, please help support this wonderful organization and visit the Canuck Place Children’s Hospice website here. The City of Abbotsford and Tourism Abbotsford also lent a hand, donating several tents and generously printing off hundreds of rack cards advertising Fieldstone and several other local business…thank you! And last but not least, another HUGE thank you to our amazingly talented vendors and thousands of happy customers…we could never have done this without you!

You are all invited!

September 19th, 2011 at 1:28 am

With the air feeling just a little more crisp than it did a few weeks ago and the leaves beginning to turn the glorious colours of Fall, the Fieldstone Vintage Market is a great way to bring in the season and maybe even start your Christmas shopping!  We have a fantastic line-up of vendors and if you haven’t stopped by the Fieldstone vendor gallery yet, you really should!  Now is the time to do some pre-market window stalking to make your market day plan of attack.  It always pays off to be prepared so here are some things to know…

What to bring:
Reusable Tote Bag(s)
Cash (most vendors will be cash only)
Comfortable shoes
A Truck (if you’re looking for furniture!)
Friends (they make everything better!)

Directions and Parking:  The Bakerview EcoDairy is conveniently located just off the #1 Highway,  if you aren’t familiar with the area, click here for directions. There will be plenty of parking for Fieldstone guests on the Ecodairy property as well as across Sumas Way.  Parking attendants will be around to help you find the best parking spot possible.  If the lot happens to be full, please use the cross walk if you choose to park across the street.

Out of towners:  If you’ve come from afar and are wondering where to stay and what to do, our friends at Tourism Abbotsford have the whole weekend planned for you.  Click here for details.

Rain or Shine:  The weather forecast looks promising for Saturday but just in case, all the vendors will be under cover.  So don’t let a few raindrops stop you from enjoying the Fieldstone Vintage Market, just put on your Wellies and a smile because we’ll be on the field rain or shine.

With plenty of shopping and activities to enjoy, we hope that you plan to spend a good part of your day with us. Your whole family is welcome and there will be entertainment and activities to keep them occupied while you shop until your heart’s content.  And if you still need more time, you can always bribe them with ice cream.  The clock is ticking and you can be sure that the vendors are furiously working over time to get things ready for us.  We can’t wait to see what’s in store and we hope you’ll join us on September 24th at the Bakerview EcoDairy!
